Dear Mums, Dads and Students,
Hello! What an amazing term we have had! Many of our students have been preparing or have been involved in assessments over this term. We have found that setting goals during the year for technique has helped improved the standard at our school and assisted the dancers in their own path to improving. Next week starting 24th June is “Open Week” where parents and friends can come and watch classes. I encourage you to do so, in support of your children and to see the wonderful progress that has been made. Our classes will continue until Saturday 29th June. Please feel free to bring visitors, but remember to save chatting and phone calls for outside so as not to disrupt the class.
Our classes next term will resume on the15th July and continue until 22nd September. We will assume you are continuing with us, so please do let us know if you are dropping a class, as we need to know in preparation for our end of year Concert and/or for numbers. There is no need to complete a new enrolment form if you already have done one for this year. Fees are now due for term 3, and to take advantage of our early bird discounts need to be paid by the 1st week of term 3 at the latest.
Term 3 - 15th July to 22nd September
END OF YEAR CONCERT – 1st weekend in November
Please include $10 commitment fee to next term’s fees.
This will enable us to start making plans for this big event. We have had some trouble this year booking a venue as Dee Why RSL are booked out. We do have a tentative date set for UTS at Kuringai but we are still exploring alternatives closer to home. We will let you know asap when we have confirmed our date but will aim for the first weekend in November.
Pilates / Allegro Classes
I am currently taking bookings for Pilates equipment classes next term. Please confirm your desire to continue with these classes now. If parents do Pilates, Zumba or Yoga with us, other family members can take advantage of our generous family discounts. This can provide you with a huge saving on your gym membership and on the kids dance fees. Feel free to drop in over the coming week to check out the classes. If you are interested in our Pilates equipment classes I would be pleased to offer an Initial consult for only $40 (a 50% saving) if booked during the coming school holidays.
Confirming our ballet assessments will be held on Sunday 30th and Monday 1st July. Assistance with providing morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch would be greatly appreciated. It does take dedication and commitment to participate in the exams but the rewards of improved dancing ability and confidence are worth it! Congratulations and good luck to everyone participating! Your improvement is awesome!
School Holiday Workshop - 3rd July
One of our most popular teachers, Jessie Rocherford-Barber will be leading a dance workshop in the holidays. Keep Wednesday the 3rd July free for us and come and join the fun. Students will be exposed to a variety of dance styles, and opportunity to explore their own choreographic abilities and an awesome dance movie. It will be $70 for the day. Bookings are essential.
Adult Classes continue in the School Holidays!
Due to popular demand we will be continuing with our adult classes. Bookings are essential. Please let your teacher know if you want to continue.
Last Term in Review
Term 2 has been busy and productive. Ballet students attended some special workshops with the Australian Ballet Company. These are a wonderful opportunity to work with some of the best dancers in the world! (I am not being biased). It is delightful to work with our dedicated young dancers and see the huge improvements made by having a deadline and something to work towards.
Professional Development for our Teachers
Part of our school’s goals is to provide a learning environment for all. This term, many of our teachers were assessed by our own Em Seedsman. Em is a lecturer at the Australian College of Physical Education in the Dance department. This is a great opportunity for us to continue to grow and develop our skills so that we can continue to be the best we can be to the benefit of our students.
The Eisteddfod group also has been working hard and did a great job representing the school at their first eisteddfods for the year! They did a wonderful job representing our school. Please keep us informed of performance opportunities! If you school is holding a fair we would be delighted to come along and perform and then afterwards, enjoy the fair and help support your school!
There are some great Videos of our dancers on our facebook page, as well as regularly updated information. If you haven’t already visited the page, please do so www.facebook.com/djazzexDP and like it to receive all the info on your live feed. Check it out and like our page so that we can keep you informed of what is going on.
